Xiuyan Jade Gua Sha

Pale, cloudy green with a soft waxy surface. Xiuyan jade comes from Liaoning in northeastern China and is a little lighter and more translucent than the classic white jade — quieter to look at, and slightly more slip in the glide. It warms to your skin within a minute of use rather than staying cold.

Best for: a softer, warmer take on the traditional stone.

The three-minute ritual

1. Prep. Clean skin, then a few drops of facial oil or a slippery serum. The stone should glide — if it drags, you need more oil, not more pressure.
2. Sweep. Hold it almost flat against your skin. Work outward from the centre of the face: jaw to ear, cheek to temple, brow to hairline. Three slow passes each side.
3. Finish. Light strokes down the side of the neck toward the collarbone. Rinse, pat dry, done.

Care

Rinse in warm water with a mild soap after each use and dry with a soft cloth. Chill it in the fridge if you like the cold. Natural stone, so expect small variations in colour and veining — yours will not look exactly like the photo, and that is rather the point.
