Stainless Steel Gua Sha

The practical one. Stainless steel is completely non-porous, so nothing lives in it — no oil residue in a seam, nothing to think about if your skin is reactive or breakout-prone. It takes cold faster than any stone here and holds it longer, and it will not chip if you drop it on tile at eleven at night.

Best for: acne-prone or sensitive skin, and anyone who has already broken one.

The three-minute ritual

1. Prep. Clean skin, then a few drops of facial oil or a slippery serum. The tool should glide — if it drags, you need more oil, not more pressure.
2. Sweep. Hold it almost flat against your skin. Work outward from the centre of the face: jaw to ear, cheek to temple, brow to hairline. Three slow passes each side.
3. Finish. Light strokes down the side of the neck toward the collarbone. Rinse, pat dry, done.

Care

Rinse in warm water with a mild soap after each use and dry with a soft cloth. Non-porous, so nothing soaks in and nothing lingers. Ten minutes in the fridge before use if you want the cold.
