Gua sha is better. It is also a technique. There is an angle, a direction, a pressure, and a sequence — and on a Tuesday at eleven at night when you have nothing left, the honest outcome is that you skip it entirely.

A roller removes every decision. The wheel dictates the angle. The rolling motion dictates the pressure. You cannot really do it wrong — the worst case is that you do it a bit less effectively than a gua sha, which is infinitely better than not doing it at all.

Honest comparison: a gua sha will give you more visible jaw definition because it releases muscle. A roller is gentler, faster and more consistent. Most people who own both reach for the roller more often.

How to use it

1. Two to three drops of facial oil on clean skin. Jade needs slip, same as a gua sha.
2. Neck first — large wheel, downward, three passes each side.
3. Jaw and cheek — always from the centre of the face outward toward the ear. Never roll back and forth; lift and reset.
4. Small wheel for under-eyes — inner corner outward, very light.
5. Small wheel along the brow bone and up between the eyebrows.
6. Finish down the neck — three passes each side.

One direction only. Rolling back and forth defeats the purpose — you are trying to move fluid somewhere, not agitate it in place.

Questions

Roller or gua sha?
Gua sha for maximum effect and jaw definition. Roller for consistency and ease. If you have historically bought tools and not used them, start with the roller.

Why does mine squeak?
Product build-up in the pivot. Wipe around the yoke with a dry cloth. Avoid submerging it.

Can I put it in the freezer?
No — the fridge only. Natural stone can crack at freezer temperatures. If you want proper cold, use the IceGlow™ Roller or Cryo Globes™, which are built for it.

Is the jade real?
Yes, natural nephrite. You can tell because it is cool to the touch, has visible internal veining, and no two are identical. Dyed resin fakes are uniform and warm up instantly in your hand.

Do I need oil?
Yes. Same rule as the gua sha — dry skin plus stone means dragging.
