Ten minutes lying down. The most well-evidenced thing in this entire range.

A contoured LED mask using red and near-infrared light. You wear it, you do nothing, and after about six weeks your skin looks noticeably calmer and firmer in photographs. It is the least effort and the most literature.

The problem

Everything else in a skincare routine asks something of you. Technique, timing, pressure, consistency, an order of operations you have to remember. And most of it works on the surface — the top layers, where creams reach.

What you actually want to influence sits deeper: the fibroblasts in the dermis that produce collagen, and the inflammatory response that drives redness and slow healing. No cream reaches there. Light does.

The solution

Red light around 630 nanometres and near-infrared around 850 nanometres penetrate to the dermal layer, where they are absorbed by the mitochondria in your skin cells. The cells respond by producing more ATP — cellular energy — which measurably increases collagen synthesis and reduces inflammatory signalling.

This is not a fringe claim. Photobiomodulation has been studied for decades, originally in wound healing, and red light therapy has a body of peer-reviewed evidence behind it that most cosmetic ingredients cannot match. It is also the technology behind $400 to $600 masks from brands you will recognise.

Ours is a rigid contoured shell rather than a flexible wrap. The trade-off is honest: a hard shell holds its shape and its diode spacing consistently, and it is what allows us to fit a dense full-face array at this price. A flexible mask conforms slightly better to an individual face. Both work; this one costs a fifth of the flexible premium units.

What you can expect

  • Weeks 1–2: calmer skin, less redness, blemishes settling faster than usual. Not dramatic — but the first thing people notice.
  • Weeks 3–4: a more even tone and a noticeably smoother texture.
  • Weeks 6–8: the firmness change. Fine lines around the eyes and mouth soften. This is where the collagen response shows up.
  • Ongoing: maintained with three to four sessions a week.
  • Immediately: ten minutes where you cannot look at your phone. Several customers have mentioned this is the actual benefit.

Honest expectations: no LED mask removes deep wrinkles, treats melasma, or replaces sunscreen and retinol. What it does reliably is reduce inflammation and support collagen over time. Skip a fortnight and you will not lose your progress — skip two months and you will.

How to use it

  1. Clean, dry, bare skin. No oil, no serum, no makeup — anything on the surface scatters the light. This is the most common mistake.
  2. Fit the mask and adjust the strap so it sits stably and close to the face.
  3. Press the button once. Ten minutes, then it shuts off by itself.
  4. Lie down or sit back. Do not walk around — the mask shifts and you lose contact.
  5. Apply everything else afterwards. Serum, moisturiser, oil, in that order.

Frequency: ten minutes, four to five times a week for the first eight weeks, then three times a week to maintain. More is not better; the cellular response has a ceiling and daily use offers no additional benefit.

Eyes: the eye cut-outs mean you can keep them open, but it is bright. Most people close them, and closing them is entirely safe with red and near-infrared.

Safety — read this part

Do not use if you are taking a photosensitising medication — isotretinoin, doxycycline, some diuretics and certain antibiotics among them — or if you have lupus or another photosensitive condition. Ask your doctor if you have epilepsy, are pregnant, or have any active skin cancer or undiagnosed lesion. Discontinue if you get persistent redness lasting more than an hour after a session.

Red and near-infrared LED does not emit UV and will not tan, burn or damage skin at these intensities.

Why customers love it

Because it is the only step that asks nothing of you. There is no technique to get wrong. You put it on, you lie down, ten minutes later it turns itself off. For anyone who has bought skincare tools and abandoned them, that matters more than any specification.

And because the results photograph. Take a picture in the same light on day one and again at week eight — that comparison is why people who buy this one tend to keep going.

Questions

Does red light therapy actually have evidence behind it?
Yes — considerably more than most cosmetic ingredients. Photobiomodulation has been studied since the 1960s, initially for wound healing, and there is a substantial peer-reviewed literature on red and near-infrared light for collagen synthesis and inflammation. The caveat is dose: results depend on wavelength, intensity and consistency, which is why at-home devices produce slower results than clinical ones.

Rigid shell or flexible silicone — does it matter?
Less than the marketing suggests. Flexible masks conform slightly better to an individual face. Rigid shells hold diode spacing consistently and cost far less to make. Both deliver the same wavelengths. We chose rigid because it let us fit a dense array at $79.99 instead of $400.

How does this compare to a $500 mask?
Same wavelengths, same mechanism. Premium devices generally deliver higher irradiance — more power per square centimetre — which can mean faster results, plus longer warranties and clinical trial data on the specific unit. Can I use it with serum on, to get more out of it?
No — the opposite. Anything on the skin surface scatters and absorbs light before it reaches the dermis. Bare skin during, everything else after.

How long before I see something?
Calmer skin and less redness in one to two weeks. Texture at three to four. The firmness change people actually want at six to eight. Anyone promising a visible transformation in a week is not being straight with you.

Is it safe around my eyes?
Red and near-infrared are not UV and are considered eye-safe at these intensities. Cut-outs are provided; most people close their eyes because it is bright rather than because it is dangerous.

Can I use it with retinol?
Yes, but not simultaneously. LED on bare skin, then retinol afterwards — or LED in the morning and retinol at night, which is what most people settle on.

Will it help acne?
Red light reduces the inflammation around a breakout, so spots tend to settle faster and mark less. The blue mode targets acne bacteria more directly. Neither is a substitute for an acne treatment.

What if it stops working?
Twelve-month warranty on the electronics. Email us with your order number and we will replace it.

Our guarantee

60 nights, or your money back. Use it four times a week on bare skin for two months and photograph your face on day one. If you cannot see the difference at week eight, email us for a full refund and keep the mask. We are confident because this is the product with the evidence behind it — but we would rather you tested that yourself than took our word for it.

Complete the ritual

LED first on bare skin, then Hydra Veil™, then Glow Oil™. Add Sculpt™ Gua Sha for drainage and IceGlow™ Roller for mornings. The complete four-piece routine is The Ultimate Lyquora Ritual at $119.99 — $21.97 below buying separately.
